Assign/Associate Assets

Assign assets to specific users or departments who are responsible for the usage of the asset. You can also associate an asset to related assets in the organization.

Role Required: SDAdmin, SDSiteAdmin, Technicians with Add/Edit Assets permissions.

For IT Assets, Virtual Hosts and Machines, and Non-IT Assets

  1. In the Assets tab, select your preferred asset classification - IT Asset, Virtual Hosts and VMs, or Non-IT Assets.
  2. Select the asset product type.
  3. On the asset list view, click the asset name to go to the details page.
  4. Click Assign on the toolbar and select one of the options:
    1. Assign User and/or Department - The asset is marked in use by a user or department.
      1. Select the user, department, or site where the asset is in use.
      2. Enable Asset is Loaned check box if the asset is only being assigned temporarily.
      3. Add any relevant comments about the assignment, if needed.
    2. Associate to Asset - The asset is linked with another asset and its usage is marked to the user/department assigned to the other asset.
      1. Select the asset or site where the asset must be associated.
      2. Add any relevant comments about the association, if needed.
  5. Click Save.

You cannot assign assets to users, departments, or sites if the asset is currently assigned to an inactive user. Learn more.



For Asset Components

Asset components cannot be owned by users. They are assigned to assets and the ownership of the component is tracked via the assigned asset.
  1. In the Assets tab, select Asset Components from the left navigation pane.
  2. Select the asset product type.
  3. On the asset component list view, click the asset name to go to the details page.
  4. Click Associate on the toolbar.
  5. Select the asset to which the asset component must be associated.
  6. Add any relevant comments about the association, if needed.
  7. Click Save.

You cannot associate components to assets that are currently assigned to inactive users. Learn more.
