Start and Shut down the Server
On Windows
Start AssetExplorer Server:
- Click Start > Programs > ManageEngine AssetExplorer > AssetExplorer Server to start the web server. This takes approximately 2 minutes in a Windows XP, 512MB RAM, and 1.0 GHz processor. The server is started and the web client is launched in the default browser.
- If the web client is not launched automatically, click Start > Programs > ManageEngine AssetExplorer > AssetExplorer Web Client to start the web client. The AssetExplorer login page in opened in the default web browser.
- Enter the User Name as "administrator" and the Password as "administrator" to log in to AssetExplorer.
After you log in, the product overview page will be displayed. Select the module and play the video of the module you wish to learn about. Navigate to the
Admin page and proceed with the configurations in the
Admin page. Refer
Admin Configurations to know how to configure AssetExplorer.
Shutdown AssetExplorer:
- Click Start > Programs > ManageEngine AssetExplorer > Shutdown AssetExplorer. A confirmation message is displayed.
- Click OK to proceed with the shutdown.
Alternatively, right-click on the system tray icon % and select Shutdown Server.
On Linux
Start AssetExplorer Server:
- Go to <AssetExplorer>/bin directory and execute the run.sh file using the command: $ sh run.sh
- To start the web client, open a web browser and type the following in the address field: http://localhost:8080.
- Replace the localhost with the corresponding server name where the AssetExplorer web server is running and the port number 8080 should be replaced with the actual port where the server is running.
- Enter the Username as "administrator" and the Password as "administrator" to log in to AssetExplorer.
After you log in, the product overview page will be displayed. Select the module and play the video of the module you wish to learn about. Navigate to the
Admin page and proceed with the configurations in the
Admin page. Refer

Shutdown AssetExplorer:
Execute shutdown.sh file from the bin directory using the command: sh shutdown.sh -S
Start AssetExplorer as a Service in Cent OS 8 (SE) Edition:
- Install AssetExplorer 64 bit in Cent OS 8(SE)
- Install the rpm package ncurses-compat-libs-6.1-7.20180224.el8.x86_64.rpm from here.
- Start AssetExplorer as a Linux service by following the steps listed above.
