Association Types

Association Types

Info
Relationship Type in the CMDB module is now renamed as Association Type.

Association types define the nature of the relationship between CIs or CI types. They indicate how CIs are interconnected and interdependent. A relationship is expressed in two ways: direct and inverse. Each association type has a direct relationship from one side and an inverse relationship from the other.
For example, if the association type Managed By is the direct relationship, then Manages is its inverse.
Let’s look at an example using the association types Runs and Runs On. If Server1 Runs Application1 is the direct relationship, the system automatically represents the inverse as Application1 Runs On Server1.
Relationship types are used while:
  1. Adding a custom relationship for a CI
  2. Adding suggested relationships between CI types
